MASTERCLASS designers:

Ugliness is something often described by people as something unappealing and unpleasant. Everyone enjoys beauty, but an appreciation of ugliness is necessary to it. This entry taught me that the beautiful and the ugly are not opposites, but aspects of the same thing; perspectives. The same goes for design, we do not get to decide if something is ugly as everyone has a different style; instead we recognize its intent. Design as architecture can be widely ranged from neat and clean to curved and funky just like Australian architect Boyd Corrigan’s design of RMIT University. I understood how he overcame the ‘cultural cringe’ and bravely refined and replicable forms as a designer. It inspires me to think out of the box and be unique in my own design.
